Too Much Medication? Bipolar, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, multiple drugs

Dr my adult son is currently taking the following medications. Should he be taking ALL these medications at the same time. He has been diagnosed as being Bipolar, also having high blood pressure and diabetes.

Atorvastatin,- Zestril,- Lorazepam,- Divalproex,- Eskalith CR, - Zyprexa, - Glucotrol, - Levoxyl, - Folic Acid.

Please let me know if this is normal or needed.

Dr. Joshua’s Answer:

Atorvastatin is for high cholesterol

Zestril (lisinopril, ACE inhibitor) is for high blood pressure

Divalproex (divalproate) and Eskalith (Lithium) are for the bipolar disorder (combination therapy)

Glucotrol (glipizide) is for the diabetes

Levoxyl (thyroxine) is a thyroid hormone used for hypothyroidism

Folic Acid is a vitamin.

Please follow the doctor’s orders, and if you have doubts about these medications, discuss them with your son’s doctor.
